CASSMOB’S PRIVACY POLICY
Irrespective of government policies, it’s important to document my privacy policy in relation to this blog.
My blog is hosted by WordPress.com which is owned by Automattic. You can find their response to the General Data Protection Register legislation here and their Privacy Policy here. WordPress.com uses Akismet spam control to minimise the spam received.
Specifically, the Automattic Privacy Policy includes the following statements:
This Privacy Policy applies to information that we collect about you when you use:
- Our websites (including automattic.com, wordpress.com, vip.wordpress.com, jetpack.com, woocommerce.com, polldaddy.com, gravatar.com, intensedebate.com, vaultpress.com, and akismet.com);
- Our mobile applications (including the WordPress mobile app for Android and iOS);
- Our other products and services that are available on or through our websites (including WordPress.com plans, WordPress.com VIP, Jetpack, the WooCommerce Services Extension, Gravatar, the IntenseDebate comment management system, and Akismet plans); and
- Other users’ websites that use our Services, while you are logged in to your account with us.
Akismet minimises the need for repeated CAPTCHA processes for visitors to the blog who wish to comment. The first time you choose to comment, that comment will be in the pending (or occasionally, the spam) folder. After review by me, as the author of the blog, I can choose to accept your comments. After that you should be able to comment without needing further approval. As part of the comment process you will submit your chosen name (real or an alias) and an email address and possibly a web page.
Your email address will not be shown on the blog, and I do not disclose that detail to anyone without your permission. Should another researcher with relevant information want to contact you, however, before forwarding them your email I will seek both their permission and yours to exchange the email details. I do not pass them on in any other way. If I need to provide a complex or confidential answer to your comment I may decide to reply directly to you in detail as well as a short or edited version on the blog.
WordPress.com uses Jetpack for its statistical analysis of readership. As this is not a key factor for me, I do not use it in any way in a public forum, nor do I share it with others. Further details on Jetpack’s privacy is here.
I do not sell or provide any products through this blog and have chosen a Premium plan with WordPress.com to avoid having advertisements showing on my blog pages. Therefore, to the best of my knowledge, your personal information is not being used for commercial advantage.
As a reader you can choose to read the blog posts as and when it suits you, subscribe by email or follow using an RSS feed such as Feedly.
Should you wish to unsubscribe from the blog you can simply click the unsubscribe link which appears at the bottom of each email. You also have the option to contact me directly through this link and request that your information be removed, and if chosen, all past comments.
A cookie notification bar has been placed on the front page of the blog and the first time it comes up, you will decide whether to accept cookies or not. If you accept, the notice should not appear for another 180 days.
